Volunteer

At YCNC we value our volunteers. Without them we wouldn’t be able to run various programs and events that rely solely on our volunteers’ energy, enthusiasm, commitment and community spirit to keep running.

Current Volunteering Opportunities at YCNC

Become a Homework Club Volunteer Tutor

The African Youth Homework Club has been running at YCNC since 2009. The club runs from 3:15 – 5:30 pm Mondays and Wednesdays during school term. Most tutors commit to one session per week during the term. You will need to have some teaching experience or be currently studying Education. This is a fantastic opportunity for student teachers and will look great on your resume. The Homework Club involves 1:1 tutorial support with students in a fun and relaxed atmosphere in YCNC’s IT lab.

Expertise in one of the core high school subjects – Mathematics, English, Science, History, Music, Social Sciences or Geography – is required, or alternatively you may have TESOL qualifications and experience in teaching literacy skills.

To find out more about the Homework Club, contact club Coordinator Yvonne Dengate at yvonned@ycnc.com.au.

Becoming a YCNC volunteer

To become a volunteer, there are a few steps to undertake:

  1. Scan the Current Volunteering Opportunities at YCNC and select an opportunity you would like to become involved in.
  2. Contact the program Coordinator and find out more about the program, service or event you wish to get involved in.
  3. The Coordinator will give you information over the phone, or arrange for you to come in for an interview. Some volunteer opportunities may attract a great deal of interest, and in this case we may need to conduct competitive interviews.
  4. You will need to complete a few forms including a current Working With Children check and National Police Check, and provide us with your current CV. YCNC will process these forms on your behalf.
  5. Once we receive your Working with Children Check and National Police Check clearance forms, and you have been selected as a volunteer, you’re ready to start!
  6. Volunteers are provided with an induction to YCNC and the program or service they are involved with. You will be required to sign and adhere to our Code of Conduct.
